The Forest QuarryThe "Forest Quarry" is located at the southwest corner of the Spring tree HOA. It is also known as the "Lower Quarry" or "Dry Quarry". Historically, it was a minor part of the quarrying operations, and in later years was used as a dumpsite for waste rock. But a planting of redwood trees helped turn this area into a lovely oasis. Some visitors say it feels like SCUBA diving in a "redwood kelp forest!" Unfortunately, the area has experienced repeated vandalism, camping, fires, and other unsafe behaviors. Even well-meaning visitors face risks of injury from rock falls, unstable terrain, trash from campers, and ankle-twisting ground rock cover. As a result, the board of the Springtree HOA recently decided it needed to restrict access until it can address the public safety issues. |
